DESIGN OF DOSING SYSTEMS FOR EACH EXTRUSION PROCESS
Gravimetric dosing
Suitable for pellets, flakes, regrind, additives and powders, the GDS series ensures maximum precision when continuous dosing is required. The unit is located above the extruder inlet and is fed by vacuum receivers. High-quality load cells measure the weight loss of individual components, and servo drives adjust the throughput of each component.

Batch dosing
The BDS series is designed to efficiently manage the dosing of up to 8 components with a maximum throughput of 2,000 kg/h. The system can be equipped with 4 (6) stations that dose the main components by means of slide gates and a further 4 stations that dose additives by means of dosing screws. The BDS can handle a wide range of materials including pellets, regrind, additives, masterbatch and scraps, making it a versatile solution for a variety of industrial applications.
Dosing for twin screw extruders
The TS series, designed for twin screw extruders, functions as both a gravimetric and volumetric system, ensuring precise dosing of poorly flowing and adhesive bulk materials like calcium carbonate and talc. Available as a standalone unit or integrated within our GDS series, it features innovative agitators to prevent material bridging in the hopper and screw inlet, and a design that prevents material adherence to the screw surface. The unit is dust-sealed and boasts an operator-friendly design, all controlled with reliable Siemens technology.

The Piovan Fdm solution
Piovan Fdm designed together with Fernholz a Siemens PLC-controlled material handling system with two GDS7 loss-in-weight gravimetric dosing units: this enabled both the precise dosing of each system component and the control of the extruder. A centralised vacuum unit was also installed to serve multiple receivers simultaneously.
